For more than 60 years, audiences have delighted in an outstanding mix of internationally acclaimed theatre productions, an eclectic array of world-class musicians, breathtaking dance pieces, renowned writers and striking visual arts displays. Enjoyed amid warm March days and starry nights, Adelaide Festival’s celebration of creative excellence makes for an event of truly epic proportions.
This year, Adelaide Festival have partnered with Wilderlands to protect 1712 square metres of vulnerable habitat in the Coorong Lakes region and are inviting attendees to join them in helping protect Australia’s precious biodiversity; one square metre at a time.
Through this partnership AF have secured some of the world’s first voluntary biodiversity units which promise permanent protection of one square metre plots of land and 20 years of management within high ecological value projects across Australia, and have chosen the Coorong as the primary project to support given it’s relevance to the people of Adelaide.

Located in Meningie in South Australia, this 200 hectare landscape is a project delivered in partnership with the Ngarrindjeri people, the Traditional Custodians of the Coorong. It sees native plants supplied by the local nursery at Raukkan, a self-governed Aboriginal community 30 km northwest of the site and many Raukkan community members employed for onsite work and delivering activities such as vegetation monitoring and mapping and fencing with a focus on ensuring these communities can continue to preserve and protect this culturally important pocket of land.
